Be Holy

As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
– 1 Peter 1:15–16 –

God is holy. He exists without any impurity, entirely set apart by the perfection of His spiritual beauty. We cannot stand in His presence without being made holy. We cannot be united to Him without being made holy.

The gospel announces that the grace of God in Jesus Christ has made us holy through faith and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. So the Lord calls us the “elect of God, holy and beloved” (Colossians 3:12).

Now that we have been called, cleansed, and set apart for God, we are commanded to be holy in all our conduct. The love of the world must be cast aside. Sexual immorality must be put away. Every form of greed, every kind of idolatry, and every root of bitterness need to be gathered up and burned in the fires of faith, hope, and love for God.

Abiding in Jesus Christ and being conformed to His image each day is the foundation of our unity with one another. Just as we cannot be united to God without holiness, we cannot be united to one another without it either.
