The Lamb is Worthy

“You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10, NKJV)

Someday these words will be sung in honor of Jesus Christ. He and He alone is worthy to open the scroll of judgment that brings human history to an end, for He and He alone gave His life as a ransom for us. Only His blood, and no one else’s, was shed to atone for the sins of His people. And these people come from all over the world. People from every tribe, tongue, and nation will gather around the Lamb in order to give Him the worship He deserves for the ages to come. Perfect unity forever.

Of course, we don’t need to wait for that day to enjoy the unity we have in Christ. Nor should we wait until that day to express and preserve the unity we have in Christ. The Lamb who is worthy of our unity in Heaven is also worthy of our unity on earth. No matter what our tribe, tongue, or nation, if we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, then we are one people. “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4, NKJV).

The Lord Jesus Christ lived, died, and was raised in order to bring us to His Father as one people. He is worthy of honor, power, and glory. He is worthy of our reverence and worship. He is worthy of our affections and obedience. He is worthy of our every effort to live in unity with one another.

Areas to Focus Attitude and Behavior Change

  • Learn to see your love for other Christians and your unity with them as an expression of your love for Jesus Christ and your worship of God.
  • Learn to see your disdain for other Christians and disunity from them as an expression of your disdain for Jesus Christ and your refusal to give Him the worship He is due.
  • Show your worship toward Christ by accepting and honoring your brothers and sisters in Christ, knowing that Christ shed His blood for their salvation, just as He did for yours.
